Code of Conduct


Parental Code of Conduct 

As a parent or guardian of a swimmer(s) and member of the South Jeffco Swim League (SJSL), parents are required to abide by the following guidelines: 

1. Practice teamwork with all parents, swimmers and coaches. 

2. Parents will not coach or instruct the team or any swimmer at practice or interfere with coaches on the deck. 

3. Parents will demonstrate good sportsmanship by conducting themselves at meets and practice in a manner that earns the respect of their child(ren), other swimmers, parents, officials, and coaches. 

4. Maintain self-control at all times as to allow the coaches to coach, the swimmers to swim, the officials to officiate, and the parent to be a parent that positively supports their child. 

5. Parents will understand that criticizing, name-calling, use of abusive language or gestures towards coaches, officials, swimmers and parents will not be tolerated or permitted. 

6. Parents will actively participate in positive communication and actions with the team, coaches, parents, and swimmers. 

7. During competitions, questions or concerns about decisions made by meet officials will be directed to the coaches and/or meet committee. Parents will not address the officials during a meet. 

If a parent should conduct themselves in such a way that brings discredit or discord to the South Jeffco Swim League, they will voluntarily subject themselves to disciplinary action. 


Swimmer Code of Conduct 

All swimmers of the Swim Team will abide by the following swimmers’ code of conduct. 

1. Swimmers must only be part of the SJSL league and teams between May 15 and August 1. A SJSL swimmer may be involved with a year round swim team concurrently with the Colorado State Summer Club Swimming Association (CSSCSA) summer swim season. The swimmer may compete in meets and practice for both teams/leagues, but will not be able to participate in CSSCSA state or any invitational that follow the CSSCSA bylaws.

2. During all meets, practices and swim team functions, all swimmers agree to be a respectable representative of their swim team and will not be part of any unsportsmanlike conduct. Unsportsmanlike conduct will include but is not limited to:

a. making insulting or derogatory remarks towards competitors, coaches, parents, other team personnel or officials; 

b. showing undue disgust with official’s decisions; 

c. intentionally interfering with a swim meet, practice or other team function; 

d. taunting, teasing, or name calling of other competitors; 

e. involving him/herself or herself in behavior that is unacceptable, harmful or disrespectful to the team, families or other’s around them. 

f. Involving him/herself in practices and swim meets with other teams. 

3. All swimmers will participate to their fullest ability on the swim team, which includes practices, functions and meets. SJSL and CSSCSA By laws will be followed. 

Any swimmer who involves him or herself in unsportsmanlike conduct will be asked to leave the remainder of the activity (meet, practice, function). Repeat offenses will be taken into consideration by the swim team coaches and board and consequences will be given that may include, but not limited to: suspension from a meet or function, dismissal from the team, league or any other consequence the coaches/board feels appropriate.
